About Our Neck Lift Procedure
Loose and saggy skin around the neck can be a frustrating issue, but with a neck lift, Orange County patients can contour and revitalize their neck. With this safe and reliable form of neck plastic surgery, patients look younger and more refreshed.
Good Candidates for a Neck Lift
Patients looking for a way to get rid of excess neck skin and fat while tightening sagging neck muscles are good candidates for a neck lift. If you have a double chin or a turkey wattle neck, this is an ideal solution.
The neck lift works best for patients who are generally healthy and have a positive disposition. Keeping expectations realistic is advised. Patients who smoke will need to quit several weeks prior to their scheduled surgery. This will help to avoid a prolonged recovery process and minimize the chance of complications.
Patients need to schedule a consultation to make the most of what a neck lift has to offer. During the consultation, the neck area will be examined, and patients will be asked questions about their medical history and their expectations.
Patients will learn more about the details of the neck lift procedure from start to finish, including preparation and recovery. Questions are highly encouraged.
The Neck Lift
A neck lift procedure begins with either general anesthesia or a combination of local anesthesia and sedation. This ensures patient comfort throughout the procedure.
Once the anesthesia has taken full effect, incisions are made to provide access to the underlying tissues. Small incisions may be created below the chin and/or behind each ear. The required combination of cervicoplasty, liposuction, and platysmaplasty will then be performed.
Cervicoplasty is the elimination of loose neck skin with a scalpel, along with the tightening of the remaining skin. Liposuction is the removal of fatty tissue using a cannula and medical suction. Platysmaplasty is the rejoining and tightening of sagging platysma muscles with internal sutures. Once all changes have been made, the incisions are closed with stitches.
Neck Lift Recovery
During neck lift recovery, patients will need to stay home from work for ten to fourteen days. This will allow them to rest and recover. They must also avoid heavy lifting and other strenuous activities for three to six weeks.
Bruising and swelling will be present in the neck and jawline. A post-surgical elastic garment will help minimize these issues, as will cold compresses and keeping the head elevated. Drains may also be placed for a short time to carry out excess fluid.
Patients can see their complete neck lift results once all swelling has ameliorated. At this time, they can enjoy their neck’s sculpted and youthful appearance.
